Our Story

North Dade Center, Inc. is a Miami-based, grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Founded in 1966, the organization has continually expanded its services to achieve one lasting mission: filling critical gaps for vulnerable individuals who are at risk for social and emotional isolation.

For decades, the Center felt less like an organization and more like an extended family. Neighbors, parents, and community members gathered at board meetings, social functions, and local events, united by a simple, powerful belief: all needs matter. But as the world changed around us, and the COVID-19 pandemic forced us into our separate corners, that vibrant, tightly knit community experienced a steady, quiet erosion. The daily human touch points that once anchored so many vulnerable lives began to slip away.

 

Few understood the heart of this mission better than Gloria Warf Biber. As Director, Gloria dedicated her lifetime to the daily operations, education, and personal care of every individual who walked through our doors. Even after retiring, her passion never dimmed; she continued guiding the Center through her service on our Board of Directors. When she passed away in March 2009, her family asked for memorial gifts to be directed straight back to the Center to support the programs she spent her life building. Now, North Dade Center, Inc. continues to honor her legacy.
